Join us: Do you need to be an artist to join this committee? No!! Some of our members and volunteers are artists (musicians, dancers, actors, painters, writers), but many just love the arts and want our children to enjoy them too. If you’re inspired to join us or hear more, please contact co-chairs Erin Carroll and Alice Bell.
About the Arts & Enrichment Committee: This creative committee is focused on ensuring that equitable and varied, multi-disciplinary arts programming is brought to the students of Runnymede Public School.
2011/2012 Plans: This year (our second year as a committee!) we plan to build on the successes of last year’s programs, including:
- Art Enrichment Program – JK to Grade 3: Join us to brainstorm more great ideas for coming years or roll up your sleeves and volunteer in the classrooms for these fun and creative projects!
- Spring Thaw Art Show: This spring will be our 2nd annual primary art show. Enjoy a fun evening with the family while viewing the ‘gallery of art’ created by the students. In addition to the art show there are artistic and creative activities for the entire family. We need lots of help to make this a great event!
- Love Drama, Strings, or Band? Our school has a vibrant program in each of these areas for students in grades 4 to 8. Come see how you can support these very unique programs and ensure they are available for years to come.
- Love ‘the great outdoors’ and art? We have an amazing schoolyard that has already benefitted from many art installations, but there’s room for more! Join us as we engage the students with ways to bring art outdoors.
Arts & Enrichment Committee in Action: Check out some of our latest successes!
- On April 21, 2011, the Arts & Enrichment committee hosted a grade 7 careers fair focused on arts-related careers. Students got the opportunity to explore careers such as video animation, fashion design and music. Thank you to the 26 talented parent volunteers for sharing their experiences with our students.
- The March 31, 2011, Spring Thaw event displayed an art piece created by every one of our kindergarden to grade 3 kids, gallery-style. These pieces were created during the primary arts enrichment program this committee organized for the fall of 2010.
- Art Enrichment Program – JK to Gr. 3: In 2010/11 each JK to Grade 3 student enjoyed an in-class art enrichment program with professional art instructors from Art Works Art School, Lello Art School and The Mayhem Bros. Dance Duo!
