Spirit Committee

Join Us!  If you would like to get involved in Spirit initiatives this year or have new ideas about fun events we can run to create a sense of community, then get involved in the Spirit committee by contacting co-chairs Emma Castelhano, Heather Pegg, and Krista Wylie. Everyone is welcome and it is a great way to connect with your child’s school and meet other parents!

About the Spirit Committee: The Spirit committee is a group of volunteers committed to creating a sense of community at Runnymede P.S. We are also committed to raising the funds required to deliver the many “extras” that we have come to expect as standard for our children at Runnymede. Some of our recurring initiatives include:

  • Pizza lunches for grades 1-8 (every month)
  • Runnymede T-Shirt sales (September)
  • Holiday community event (late November)
  • The Spring Thaw Art Show and FUNdraiser (late March)
  • Parent Pub Night/Silent Auction (late April)
  • Teacher and Staff Appreciation Luncheon (early June)

2011/2012 Plans: To raise money for the school, the Spirit committee is thrilled that this year we can rely on a direct request from parents as our primary fundraiser! We asked parents via our Spring 2011 fundraising survey and a resounding 88% supported the idea of making an annual per-child donation (recommended amount of $50/child) in order to simplify fundraising. THANK YOU! We look forward to your support this fall when we send home the donation envelopes. Check out this post about the survey conclusions for more information.

The Spirit Committee in Action: Check out some of our latest successes!
  • On June 10, 2011, the Spirit committee once again hosted the annual Teacher & Staff Appreciation Lunch. And once again, Runnymede parents graciously cooked and baked and volunteered their time to show appreciation to Runnymede’s teachers and staff.
  • Parent Pub Night and Silent Auction: the 4th year of this annual crowd-pleaser raised over $6,000!
  • On March 31, 2011, the Spirit Committee teamed up with the Arts Committee to organize the Spring Thaw Art Show and Fundraiser. Netting more than $4,000, this packed event was a huge success!
