Yard Committee

Join us!
You don’t have to have a “green thumb” to be a part of the Yard committee – just a willingness to help out around the school yard. You can also support this committee by donating old garden tools or Canadian Tire money at the school office or by attending the Fall and Spring Yard Days – fabulous family-friendly events that combine work and fun. To join the committee or to volunteer your time, please contact Yard Committee Chair Sarah Frame.

About the Yard Committee:
Runnymede is lucky to have one of the greenest school yards in the TDSB! The Yard committee maintains and enhances this amazing school yard – everything from the basketball hoops and play structures to the Hillside Garden, stone amphitheatre, peace circle and outdoor art projects.

2011/2012 Plans: This year, we are celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Hillside Garden. We will continue expansion of the new Kinder-Garden sensory garden, as well as important maintenance that will involve planting, weeding, watering and painting. We will also be working closely with teachers to share further curriculum-based lesson plans that can be implemented in Runnymede’s amazing outdoor classroom.

Yard Committee in Action: Check out some of our latest successes!
  • Spring Yard Day – April 16, 2011. Kicking off Earth Week, this was a great event for the Runnymede families to pitch-in and help improve the Hillside Garden and schoolyard.
  • Our Kinder-Garden Sensory Garden is a work-in-progress that began with JK/SK children planting multi-coloured plants in the fall of 2010 as part of the garden’s “sight” sense section. Students ranging from JK – Grade 2 have contributed to the plantings and art in this garden over the past two years. Nicolette Linton of Green Bean Landscape Design, and Runnymede parent volunteer, drew up these beautiful designs for the Kinder-Garden. Runnymede is fortunate to have this cutting-edge resource for our children!
